Mental Health Awareness Week…Acknowledge Your Depression💚

Good morning, I still belive to this day people don't believe depression is real.....in order to heal you are going to have to ackknowledge this fact!

Depression is an illness and needs to be acknowledged as such. It is not a reason to be ashamed. The reason so many people fail to seek help for their depression is that they are ashamed. Unfortunately, this is one of the feelings associated with depression anyway and makes the illness difficult to acknowledge.

If you are constantly feeling particularly low, well-meaning friends might tell you to “snap out of it” or even start to get irritated by your mood. Your depression will feed off this negativity and you start to wonder why you can’t just “snap out of it”. You then start to feel that there’s something wrong with you because it should be so easy and it’s just “not right” that you feel so bad all the time. Well, it’s not right and there is something wrong with you. You have a medical condition and you deserve treatment in the same way as any other patient. If you had a cold for six months would you ignore it and hope it would pass? 🤷🏾‍♀️ No, you would dose yourself up with anything you could find and maybe see a doctor to find out if there’s an underlying reason for it to last so long.

Depression is sadness that lasts too long. Everyone is sad at some point in their lives but depression is more than that. It is a feeling that you can’t bring yourself up from the bottom. In the end you give up trying. People start to avoid you. You feel worse. You need to find external help to treat the problem in the same way as you would if you had a long-lasting cold. You could try herbal remedies – there are some in your pharmacy – or you could see your doctor. There may be an underlying physical cause for your depression.

If your doctor cannot help you they may refer you for counselling. Don’t be embarrassed to go for counselling but do make sure you are comfortable with your counsellor. If not, try another one. Counselling should not be discounted because you don’t feel comfortable with your first choice of practitioner. In everyday life you will naturally find that you get on with some people and clash with others. You cannot afford to have a personality clash with your counsellor. On the other hand you must be sure that it is a personality clash and not just that you don’t agree with what they are saying. A general rule is to go with your instincts. If you like the person and seemed to get on well in the first couple of sessions then stick with it because they might just have touched on the root cause of your problem.

In some cases, acknowledging depression may be difficult because you have lived with it so long that you don’t know whether it is depression or not. If you have grown up with depression it is possible not to realise that you are actually depressed because you have no concept of how normal people should feel. You may feel angry all the time or you may feel like going to the middle of an empty field and simply screaming. You may feel anxious, have trouble sleeping or even sleep too much. You may think that your family would be better off without you (and actually believe that to be true) and may have considered running away or suicide. You may worry about death all the time (yours or someone else’s) and not let yourself be happy just in case…… (or even “I must enjoy this now in case………..”). If you are feeling any or all of the above then you need to consider talking to someone. Even if it is just a friend or family member to start with, they may be able to advise you and encourage you to seek professional help.

Once you have acknowledged that you have depression please remember that it is a medical condition and can be cured. You don’t have to feel this way for ever. Nobody actually thinks of you the way you think they do. Talk to someone. Seek and accept help and you will find that there is a different way of seeing life. I am rooting for your recovery, we all in this together never feel like you are alone…ever!!☺

Have an amazing day,

Mental Health Awareness…learn how to control your thoughts!

#mentalhealthawareness💚

Overthinking can be a BIG problem for most of us, we usually think on things we can’t control the most! Here are 5 tips to help control those thoughts:

#1– CONTROL YOUR THOUGHTS

“We can’t control our thoughts”

Yes you can by not thinking on everything that pops in your head. When the negative thoughts pop up, ask yourself “will this thought drain my energy”, how can I think on something better or different?

Most of the time those thoughts are unimportant and stress you out more.

Yes we have things we have to think about, but it’s how you react to them.

The goal isn’t to stop 🛑 thinking negative thoughts all together but learning how we react to them.

#2 – DON’T BELIEVE YOUR BRAIN

“Just because you think it, doesn’t make it true”

Really enough said about this, stop believing everything you think period…🤷🏽‍♀️

#3– BRING YOURSELF TO THE PRESENT

Mindfulness is so important, stop dwelling on the past, last week, and yesterday. Life is too short keep thinking about what would have happened.

When you bring yourself to the present, you move forward from the past.

Our past doesn’t define our future, so why should it ruin our thoughts?

#4– ACTION STOPS FEAR

Thoughts that are based on anxiety or worrying about a future event. It hasn’t happened so why the hell are you worrying now🤷🏽‍♀️

When we are feeling anxious, we are often fearing or dreading something that is coming up in the future. This could be a big event, a job interview or more abstract things like paying the bills, finding purpose in life etc.

Let it go girl….worrying doesn’t keep things from happening, but learn how to get through the situation. I promise it isn’t as bad as we usually think.

#5– CONTROL PLAN

A control plan is a list of things that you either can or cannot control.

CAN CONTROL:

•Hairstyle

•Makeup

•Clothes you put on

•Relationships

•Diet and Exercise

CANNOT CONTROL:

•Facial structure

•Body structure, God made you

•Height

•Others opinions of you

You get it right???? Try making a list of your own and see how this can help control those unwanted thoughts!

Tips for Confidence….👇🏾

#tuesdaytips

#confidence

🤷🏽‍♀️I have lost count how many times I’ve read and heard of celebrity marriages failing. Not that I care , it just seems unusual that we frequently see movie and TV stars as unflawed individuals, living the fairy tale life of riches and glamour. I guess we all have to quit sticking our heads in the sand and confront reality.

There are a lot of ways to lose your sense of confidence despite of how trivial it might be. But whatever occurs, we ought to all try not to lose our own sense of self.

So what does it take to be a cut above the rest? Here are a few of the things you are able to improve on:

🔹Know your passion. Are you drifting through life with little direction – hoping that you’ll come across happiness, health and prosperity? Identify your life passion or mission statement and you’ll have your own unequalled compass that will lead you to your truth every time. This might appear tricky initially when you feel you’re at a dead end. But there’s always a way to turn things around and you are able to make a big difference in your life.🔹Understand your values. What do you value most? Arrive at a list of your top five values. A few examples are security, freedom, loved ones, spiritual development, and learning. As you set your goals for this year – check your goals against your values. If the goal doesn’t line up with any of your top 5 values – you might want to reconsider it or revise it.🔹Understand your needs.Unmet needs may keep you from living genuinely. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be correct, to be in command, to be loved? There are so many individuals who live their lives without realizing their aspirations and most of them wind up being stressed or even depressed for that matter. List your top 4 needs and get them met before it’s too late!

🔹Understand your loves.

You know who you are and what you truly like in life. Obstacles like doubt and lack of exuberance will only hinder you, but won’t derail your chance to become the individual you ought to be. Express yourself and honor the individuals who have inspired you to become the very individual you wanted to be.

🔹Live from the inside out.

Better your awareness of your inner wisdom by regularly reflecting in silence. Commune with nature. Breathe deeply to calm your distracted mind. For most of us it’s difficult to even find the peace and quiet we want even in our own household.

In my case I frequently just sit in a dimly lit room and play some classical music. There’s sound, yes, but music does soothe.

🔹Observe your strengths.

What are your favorable traits? What special talents do you have? List 3 – if you bog down, ask those closest to you to help describe these. Are you inventive, witty, and good with your hands? Discover ways to express your genuine self through your strengths. You are able to better your self- confidence when you are able to share what you know to other people.

🔹Serve other people.

When you live genuinely, you might find that you develop an interrelated sense of being. When you’re true to whom you are, living your passion and giving of your talents to the world around you, you repay in service what you came to share with other people -your spirit – your essence. Sharing your gift with those close to you is so rewarding.

Confidence is indeed one type of work that’s worth it. It shouldn’t always be inside the confines of an office building, or in your room. The difference lies inside ourselves and how much we wish to change for the better.

Wellness Wednesday: 3 Simple Ways to Get Sleep

🤔Picture this: It’s 5:27 PM. You’re hungry after a busy day at work, itching to get home to see your family, and now you’re stuck in traffic. Frustration sets in. But you’re used to it since this is an every day occurrence.

So you finally stroll into your house at 6:04 PM, your 2 young children are clamoring for your attention, and they’re hungry too. You pop some frozen dinners in the microwave knowing full well they’re not healthy, but also knowing that you just don’t have time to think, much less cook. After a quick dinner consisting of Salisbury Steak you’re day’s not even close to over.

Now it’s time to do laundry, read with the kids, and of course a day’s work left over from the office. When do you have time to rest? At night you keep telling yourself.

But every night it’s the same old story. You flop into bed past 1 AM and close your eyes. Your mind is still racing from the day that just passed and the busy day ahead. So you toss and turn, hoping that you’ll be able to get at least a little shut-eye before your 6:00 AM wake up call (an annoyingly loud alarm clock

you’ve had for 15 years).

And the next day it starts all over again. You’re tired at work, you don’t have time to eat, you’re stressed, and you can’t get out of the vicious cycle.

So what do you do?

First thing’s first: take a deep breath. You’re probably stressed out just reading this far.☺️

To get a more restful sleep tonight do the following:

😴1) Get a notebook and take 5 minutes right before laying down to free write. What you want to do is get every thought from the past, present, and future out of your head and on paper where it’s safe and secure. This will free the clutter from your head and allow you to rest easier.

😴2) Get a new alarm clock that wakes you up gradually with classical music. This will do absolute wonders for your morning routine. What you want to do is set the alarm to go off 15-20 minutes earlier than you usually wake up. It will turn on very quietly and slowly bring you out of your slumber.

😴3) Add a few very healthy snacks to your daily routine. One of my favorites is a 2 oz pre-packaged bag of baby carrots. They taste good, they’re good for you, and they take no prep-time. When you’re hungry at work or on the way home, munch on these. Another great snack is raw almonds. Eating healthier works

amazingly well to help you sleep better.

Please use these 3 simple tips to enjoy a more restful sleep tonight.

Not sure if they will help much since I’m up at 4 a.m. writing this, lol!

Sleep well,

Olivia
