Quick Tips To Help Someone Who Suffers💚

#mentalhealthawarenessmonth💚

The belief is people who suffer from some type of mental illness is doing this to get attention, we can easily ‘snap out of it’ you say….🤔

Truth is most of us don’t really want to be bothered or we don’t want to bother you with the demons we are facing on a daily basis.

So instead of accusing, guessing, or gossiping about us, here are a few ways you can help me or someone you know that suffers:👇🏾

👉🏾Make a date with your friend, spouse, co-worker, or whoever you know that suffers. We hate leaving the house but make it worth our while, take them some place quiet or pack a light lunch and find a nice place in the park.

👉🏾Offer to do the dishes, clean up, or ask them if there’s any errands you can run for them. People who suffer sometimes let the little things like cleaning the house or washing clothes go.

👉🏾Offer to do their hair or take them to enjoy a spa day. This could give them a chance to feel good about themselves if for only one day. Sometimes our confidence is really low during this time.

👉🏾Sit and talk with us without passing judgment, sometimes all we need is a listening ear.

👉🏾Support them, offer to educate yourself about their illness. Offer to go to therapy or help them find resources in their area.

See it’s not that hard…we just need support and comfort during this time.

Welcome, My name is Olivia Shepherd, and I am the founder of this awesome blog about depression and mental illness. I started this blog in 2016 after being diagnosed with Major Depression, Anxiety and PTSD. I didn't have anybody to talk too or share my feelings with, so I decided to share them publicly to help others. I'm passionate and dedicated to bringing awareness about mental health, especially in the African American community. I also want to empower your voice to speak up and fight the stigma surrounding this illness. I’m also the founder of AshesToBeauty Mentoring & Outreach, a virtual online service dedicated to to the positive development and accelerated recovery of girls and women who have experienced abuse and depression, Ashes To Beauty strives to empower women to take their lives back by providing life skill education, one-on-one mentorship and impactful personal tools by which these impacted women can build the foundation for a successful future.
